Meet Alvin Harris, Our Manager
Tell us about your grandmother – I’ll never forget, I got married and my wife had a child, a son, from a previous marriage. And he was just kind of scared of me. And I couldn’t figure out what to do to make him comfortable around me. I went to Grandma Russell and I said, “I don’t know what to do.” And she said, “When you go home, instead of sitting on the couch or standing up over him talking to him, go and sit in front of the couch on the floor and tell him to come to you and then you’ll be at his level, and he’ll become your friend and it will be all right.” She was over 100% right, it was amazing, the difference.”
How did you come to work at the Thrift Store – My dad (Jim Harris) and my sister asked me to come and help Dad with it. Dad was having some health issues.
What do you like best about working at the Thrift Store – I love it! Helps a lot of people. I know it’s to help bring in some income to The Russell Home because of the donations we get. I never realized how much of an impact it has on our whole community. Every day is like the best day in the world because you do something every day to make someone have a huge smile or you know you helped someone else other than just being a thrift store.
Tell us what you learned from your father – He taught me life is about love and everything revolves on it, and that’s it. Period! Just have complete faith and go.
From all kinds of clothing, kitchenware, furniture, bathroom décor, vhs/cd/dvd’s, sports equipment, and toys, we mostly likely have what you need for yourself, or as gifts for someone else (National Teacher Appreciation Day is May 8, National School Nurse Day is May 9, National Baby Sitter is May 12, & National Senior Fitness & Wellness Day is May 30). As our weather turns warmer, check out our water and other sports equipment, bathing suits, and spring/summer clothing.
Again, thank you for your support of the Thrift Store, and The Russell Home for Atypical Children!
